Netball Positions Guide
Netball features seven distinct positions, each with specific roles and areas of play. Understanding these positions is key to mastering team strategy and gameplay.
Goal Shooter (GS)
- Primary scorer of the team
- Allowed only in the shooting circle and attacking third
- Works closely with the Goal Attack to convert goals
Goal Attack (GA)
- Supports scoring and attacking plays
- Can shoot from within the shooting circle
- Covers the attacking third and center third
Wing Attack (WA)
- Main playmaker in attack
- Feeds the ball into the shooting circle
- Allowed in the attacking third and center third (not the circle)
Centre (C)
- Links defense and attack
- Takes the center pass
- Covers all thirds except both shooting circles
Wing Defence (WD)
- Marks the Wing Attack
- Focuses on intercepting passes and slowing play
- Covers the center and defensive thirds (not the circle)
Goal Defence (GD)
- Defends against the Goal Attack
- Can enter the shooting circle to block shots
- Covers the defensive third, center third, and shooting circle
Goal Keeper (GK)
- Defends against the Goal Attack
- Can enter the shooting circle to block shots
- Covers the defensive third, center third, and shooting circle
