Netball Positions Guide

Netball features seven distinct positions, each with specific roles and areas of play. Understanding these positions is key to mastering team strategy and gameplay.

Goal Shooter (GS)

  • Primary scorer of the team
  • Allowed only in the shooting circle and attacking third
  • Works closely with the Goal Attack to convert goals

Goal Attack (GA)

  • Supports scoring and attacking plays
  • Can shoot from within the shooting circle
  • Covers the attacking third and center third

Wing Attack (WA)

  • Main playmaker in attack
  • Feeds the ball into the shooting circle
  • Allowed in the attacking third and center third (not the circle)

Centre (C)

  • Links defense and attack
  • Takes the center pass
  • Covers all thirds except both shooting circles

Wing Defence (WD)

  • Marks the Wing Attack
  • Focuses on intercepting passes and slowing play
  • Covers the center and defensive thirds (not the circle)

Goal Defence (GD)

  • Defends against the Goal Attack
  • Can enter the shooting circle to block shots
  • Covers the defensive third, center third, and shooting circle

Goal Keeper (GK)

  • Defends against the Goal Attack
  • Can enter the shooting circle to block shots
  • Covers the defensive third, center third, and shooting circle
