Netball NSW has announced an agreement to transfer ownership of the GIANTS Netball Super Netball licence to Sports Entertainment Group (SEG), with the transition set to take effect on 1 October 2026, ahead of the 2027 season.
The franchise will remain based in the growing Western Sydney region and plans to continue hosting home matches at Sydney Olympic Park. As part of the transition, the team will introduce a new name, logo and colour scheme, with further details expected to be revealed in the coming months.
SEG is an Australian sports media, content and entertainment organisation with extensive experience in professional sport. Its portfolio includes ownership of the Melbourne Mavericks in Suncorp Super Netball, as well as several professional basketball franchises.
There will also be continuity within the coaching setup, with Head Coach Nerida Stewart and Assistant Coach Jen Wright remaining in their roles through the 2027 season as the franchise begins its next chapter.
Since joining the competition in 2017, GIANTS Netball has established a strong legacy, creating memorable moments, celebrating talented athletes and reaching significant milestones while building a passionate supporter base throughout Western Sydney, New South Wales and beyond.
Originally established by Netball NSW as the state’s second Super Netball franchise, GIANTS Netball has played an important role in growing the sport and inspiring the next generation of players.
The licence transfer marks a significant milestone for both the franchise and the future of elite netball in the region. It provides greater certainty ahead of the upcoming Super Netball contracting period while creating a platform for long-term growth under dedicated commercial ownership.
Netball NSW has also acknowledged the contribution of the GWS GIANTS, thanking the organisation for its ongoing support through the strategic partnership that has helped shape and develop GIANTS Netball over the past decade.
Netball NSW will continue to own and operate the NSW Swifts, while working alongside SEG to ensure a smooth transition ahead of the 2027 season.
To the GIANTS Netball members and supporters, Netball NSW has expressed its appreciation for the passion shown over the years—from wearing orange with pride to helping build a club that became an important part of the Western Sydney community.
While the franchise’s name, colours and identity will change, its commitment to elite netball, its athletes and the Western Sydney community will remain at the heart of the club.
More information about the new team identity and 2027 membership arrangements will be announced in the coming months.
