Day 3 of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games netball competition began with a clash between the England Roses and the Malawi Queens, with both teams looking to secure their second victory of the tournament.
England made an impressive start, racing out to a five-goal lead before Malawi found the net for the first time. The Roses maintained control throughout the opening quarter and headed into the first break with a nine-goal advantage.
Although Malawi showed plenty of determination and matched England for periods during the second quarter, the Roses continued to dictate proceedings. Rotating all 12 squad members throughout the match, England delivered another commanding performance to claim a 73–38 victory.
The second match of the session featured Tonga and Northern Ireland, with both teams still searching for their first win of the competition.
Northern Ireland started brightly, with goal attack Orlaith Rogers setting the tone early by recording the game’s first interception and first goal assist.
What followed was a highly competitive contest, with both sides battling hard for possession and momentum.
Tonga’s accuracy in the shooting circle ultimately proved decisive during the first half. Uneeq Palavi converted at an impressive 96%, while Marie Payn maintained a perfect 100% shooting record, helping the Tala build a 31–26 lead at halftime.
Northern Ireland mounted a spirited comeback during the third quarter and closed the gap to just three goals at one stage. However, determined to secure their first-ever Commonwealth Games victory, Tonga held their nerve and finished strongly to record a historic 58–52 win.
The evening session opened with one of the most anticipated matches of the day as Jamaica and Uganda, ranked fourth and sixth in the world respectively, went head-to-head in a thrilling encounter.
Uganda made a flying start, producing five interceptions and five gains in the opening quarter to establish a 15–12 lead after the first 15 minutes.
Jamaica responded strongly in the second quarter, finding greater rhythm in attack and winning the period 17–10 to take momentum into halftime.
With only four goals separating the teams heading into the final quarter, the match remained finely balanced. However, Jamaica’s experience proved crucial down the stretch as the Sunshine Girls pulled away to secure a hard-fought 55–49 victory, marking their 50th Commonwealth Games match.
The final game of Day 3 saw host nation Scotland face Trinidad & Tobago in front of another passionate home crowd at the OVO Hydro.
The Thistles wasted no time asserting themselves, storming to a 7–2 lead within the opening five minutes and immediately energising the Scottish supporters.
Scotland continued to build momentum throughout the contest, controlling possession and capitalising on their opportunities to steadily extend their lead.
The hosts eventually completed a dominant 77–27 victory, setting a new record for their highest-ever Commonwealth Games score.
The win also marked another historic milestone, giving Scotland their first-ever consecutive victories at a Commonwealth Games, achieved on home soil in Glasgow.
Netball action resumes tomorrow at the OVO Hydro from 2:00 PM BST as the race for the finals continues.
