Scotland Delight Home Crowd with Celtic Derby Victory
Hosts Scotland earned their first victory of the tournament after defeating Wales in a spirited Celtic clash.
Backed by a sold-out home crowd, the Thistles made a flying start, establishing a 16–8 lead at the first break. Wales responded well during the second quarter, narrowing the margin to just two goals, but Scotland regained control before halftime to restore a seven-goal advantage.
Defensively, Cerys produced an outstanding performance at Goal Keeper, recording six gains and five interceptions, while Emma Barrie impressed under the post, converting 39 of 41 shooting attempts.
Scotland maintained their composure throughout the second half to secure a deserved 56–47 victory and spark celebrations inside the OVO Hydro.
Australia Continue Strong Start Against England
One of the day’s most anticipated fixtures saw world No. 1 Australia face world No. 3 England in a high-quality contest.
Both teams traded goals throughout a fast-paced opening half, but Australia’s experience began to shine as the Diamonds built a 35–24 halftime advantage.
Marking their 50th Commonwealth Games match, Australia continued to control proceedings after the break, extending their lead with disciplined defense and efficient attacking play.
The Diamonds completed an impressive 66–47 victory to remain unbeaten after two matches.
Malawi Hold Off Northern Ireland Comeback
The opening match of the afternoon session featured Malawi against Northern Ireland, with both nations searching for their first tournament win.
Malawi dominated the opening half, led by Goal Keeper Shabel Bengo, whose early interceptions helped establish a commanding 35–23 lead at halftime.
Northern Ireland responded strongly in the third quarter, reducing the deficit to just six goals and briefly threatening a comeback.
However, Malawi regained control in the closing stages to secure a well-earned 64–48 victory.
South Africa Record Highest Commonwealth Games Score
South Africa continued their impressive campaign with a commanding victory over Tonga.
The Proteas moved the ball confidently through the court from the opening whistle, building a dominant 51–23 halftime advantage through fast ball movement and clinical finishing.
For Tonga, Uneeq Palavi battled hard in attack, scoring 29 goals, but South Africa’s depth and consistency proved overwhelming.
The Proteas went on to claim a convincing 96–42 victory, setting a new record for their highest-ever score at a Commonwealth Games.
Uganda Make History Against Trinidad & Tobago
Uganda produced one of the standout performances of the day with a dominant win over Trinidad & Tobago.
The She Cranes applied relentless defensive pressure from the opening quarter, collecting eight gains and five interceptions in the first 15 minutes before extending their lead to 40–19 by halftime.
Although Trinidad & Tobago showed resilience after the break, with Jeresia McEachrane impressing in defense, Uganda maintained complete control throughout the contest.
Their 80–36 victory also marked the highest score Uganda has ever recorded at a Commonwealth Games.
New Zealand Edge Jamaica in Day Two Thriller
The final match of the day featured a highly anticipated showdown between New Zealand and Jamaica, a rematch of the bronze medal contest from the 2023 Netball World Cup.
The two sides produced an entertaining, high-intensity contest from the opening whistle, with neither team able to establish a significant advantage during the first half.
Patient attacking play and disciplined midcourt battles saw the Silver Ferns carry a narrow one-goal lead into halftime.
The contest remained evenly balanced throughout the second half, with Jamaica repeatedly closing the gap whenever New Zealand looked set to pull away.
A crucial interception by Kelly Jury with just five minutes remaining extended New Zealand’s advantage to six goals, providing the breathing room they needed to close out an exciting 53–48 victory.
