Adelaide Thunderbirds Crowned Suncorp Super Netball Champions
The Adelaide Thunderbirds have been crowned 2025 Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) Champions after a commanding 61–40 victory over the Melbourne Vixens in the Grand Final, broadcast live on NetballPass*.
Their emphatic 21-goal triumph is the largest winning margin in SSN Grand Final history and secures the Thunderbirds’ third premiership in just four seasons.
The opening quarter was a tightly contested battle, with both teams trading goals throughout. Melbourne Vixens shooter and Australian Diamond Kiera Austin gave her side a narrow one-goal advantage at the first break after sinking a Suncorp Super Shot.
The momentum shifted dramatically in the second quarter as the Thunderbirds surged ahead with a 5–0 scoring run in front of a packed crowd of 10,040 at John Cain Arena.
Defenders Latanya Wilson and Shamera Sterling-Humphrey were instrumental in Adelaide’s dominance, combining for five interceptions, 16 gains, and three turnovers. Wilson’s outstanding defensive display earned her the Grand Final MVP award.
At the shooting end, South African SPAR Protea Elmeré van der Berg was exceptional, helping the Thunderbirds build a 23–16 lead before extending it to 32–20 at halftime. Van der Berg finished the match with an impressive 51 goals from 52 attempts, bringing her season tally to 708 goals.
Melbourne came out with renewed determination after the break, but Adelaide continued to control the contest. A crucial interception from Australian Diamond Sophie Casey halted the Vixens’ momentum and ensured the Thunderbirds remained firmly in command.
Although the Vixens were more competitive in the third quarter, Adelaide maintained its intensity, winning the remaining quarters to complete a memorable championship victory.
